Voted to Let Asylees or Refugees Use TWIC Card as Voter ID

HB 1356
"Relating to documentation of proof of identification for voting."

It is inarguable that no person should be allowed to vote if they are not a citizen. It doesn't matter if they are here "legally" or not. The Biden administration is letting foreigners into Texas by the hundreds and thousands every day.

HB 1356, a Democrat bill, sought to make it so that a person in Texas could use a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) as a valid form of voter ID.

The problem is that a TWIC card can be obtained by non-citizen and for that reason alone it should never be used as a means for voter ID.

From the federal TSA website: "Eligibility - You may apply if you are a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, naturalized citizen or a nonimmigrant alien, asylee, or refugee who is in lawful status."

A Republican, former Election Integrity chair Briscoe Cain, joined the bill as a joint author, but then registered a harmless "No" against it in the local and consent vote.

(Registering "No" makes no change on the passage of this bill.)

Local and Consent is for those bills that are uncontroversial and should get near unanimous consent toward passage.

This bill didn't belong anywhere near the Local and Consent Calendar and deserved to be debated on the floor where it could be amended.

Thankfully, it died in the Senate.
