Voted to Allow Grants to Hospitals that Transition Children

"Relating to a grant program to fund the provision by children's hospitals of mental and behavioral health services to children in this state."

Right before the vote, Rep. Tinderholt offered this amendment: "The commission may not award a grant under the grant program to a children's hospital that provides services, medications, or procedures for transitioning a child's biological sex as determined by the sex organs, chromosomes, and endogenous profiles of the child or affirming the child's perception of the child's sex if that perception is inconsistent with the child's biological sex."

He raised the pertinent issue about this bill, but his amendment was killed by point of order.

So, everyone knew what this vote condoned. No excuses.

As further proof of this, when the bill got to the Senate, the Senate did amend the bill to include a clause that would prevent awarding a grant if the money was to be used for transitioning a child.

Senate language added: "(d) A grant recipient may not use a grant awarded under the grant program to: (2) provide mental health services, including treatments or procedures, to a child that affirm the child's perception of the child's sex if that perception is inconsistent with the child's biological sex."
