Shifted Risk from Private Sector to Taxpayers and Invites Favoritism
Sec. 481.684. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE COMPOSITION.The use of taxpayer dollars to "incentivize" specific industries - no matter how innovative - sets a precedent for economic favoritism and market distortion. It invites government to play an outsized role in directing private-sector investment priorities, which could lead to inefficiencies, politicization, or unintended long-term dependencies. There is also no performance-based sunset provision or opt-out mechanism if the initiative fails to produce a measurable return on investment.
(a) The initiative is governed by an executive committee composed of the following members:
(1) three members appointed by the Governor;
(2) two members appointed by the Lieutenant Governor; and
(3) two members appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
