During legislative session, groups will go to committee hearing and advocate for or against bills.
If those bills make it to the floor for a vote, we can determine how often a legislator agreed with a group that lobbied for or against bills. If the legislator's vote align with what the group wanted, the legislator agreed. If the legislator's vote didn't align with what the group wanted, the legislator disagreed.
We're not making a judgment about whether a group's position was right or wrong, but nearly every legislator tries to tell those in their district that they "stood up against lobbyists to fight for you!"
But did they really stand up against lobbyists?
Across 72 lobbying groups, legislators range from 30% agreement with lobbyists to 90% agreement. If a legislator agrees with these groups more than 70% of the time, they're not really standing up against lobbyists.
Here's the percentage for this legislator: 89.59%.
