Voted that Tax Dollars Can Be Used to Purchase Single-Family Homes
HB 104 proposed funding the Texas Future Fund, a $5 billion investment account carved out of the Economic Stabilization Fund (Rainy Day Fund) to support emerging technologies and industries such as frontier tech and national defense.
Democrat Rep. Vikki Goodwin offered an amendment that would have prohibited "an entity or project in which an investment is made from using that investment to purchase single-family housing."
While Rep. Goodwin is a Democrat, we don't know any Texan who wants the Texas government to allow a part of the government or any organization receiving your taxpayer dollars from the government to buy single-family housing with your money. Do you?
Who would be okay with that when rising property taxes can take homes from people today??
The smart representative paying attention would have voted for the amendment. Regrettably, too many of our representatives have no problem with the government spending your money in ways you would never approve. And two of our Republicans who voted the right way used a statement of vote to tell us that they really meant to vote the wrong way. Fair enough - we'll take their word for it.
